Tannin Reduction Filter
Does your water have a yellowish or tea-colour to it?
If your answer is yes, you may have tannin in your water.
Tannins are dissolved decayed organic matter generally found in shallow well and surface waters like lakes, rain-fed streams etc. Some water sources carry tannin all year round while some may have tannin only seasonally, particularly in the spring and fall run-offs.
Though not a direct health risk, tannins impart a yellow or tea-color to water, making it aesthetically unpleasant and reducing the efficiency of ultraviolet disinfection systems. Further, tannins can bind iron organically; make it extremely difficult to be removed by conventional methods.
Rainfresh ETFE Series Tannin Reduction Filter
Rainfresh ETFE Tannin Reduction Filter removes tannin from water by the principle of ion exchange. It features a high grade tannin-specific resin with low amines to reduce tannins. It is designed for whole-house installation and treats all the water going into the house. The system is usually located after the pump/pressure tank system and any sediment/iron filters, but before the plumbing line divides into hot and cold.
When water flows through the Rainfresh ETFE system, tannins are removed instantly and clear water passes out for use. The ETFE system features a fully automatic electronic control valve that sets off an automatic backwash and regeneration cycle once the resin exchange capacity has been exhausted. During the backwash/regeneration cycle, the resin bed is cleaned up of dirt and recharged with a salt solution. Salt is stored in a separate container included with the system.
The ideal location for installation is after the pressure tank before line divides into hot and cold. If turbidity, Iron or Manganese filters are installed, the ETFE Tannin Filter system should be installed after them, but before a UV system.
Will I drink all the salt that I put in the salt tank?
Salt is only used to recharge the tannin resin with chloride ions after the resin capacity has been exhausted. Following this salt-recharge, the system undergoes a rinse cycle during which any left-over salt is discharged to drain. You may however, notice a slight salty taste to the water, depending on the tannin levels in your water.
Conditions for operation for tannin reduction filter
ETFE tannin filters do not disinfect the water. They should not be installed on water that is microbiologically unsafe without adequate disinfection before or after the system. For details on available disinfection systems, call Rainfresh.
