When chlorinated water flows through the carbon bed, chlorine and organics are instantly reduced and the de-chlorinated water flows up through a riser tube to use. An automatic control valve initiates periodic backwash, thereby ridding the carbon bed of trapped sediment/dirt and exposing fresh adsorption sites.

The significant advantage of these systems lies in their extremely low maintenance, compared to the high cost of replacing cartridge type filters. Further, they offer much better flow rates and minimal pressure drop, making them a far superior choice for high flow applications.

ECFE series whole house chlorine filter features an automatic backwash valve with electronic display. This triggers backwash automatically (at least once a week). This process keeps the carbon fresh and gives you several years (up to seven years) of chlorine-free water.
